Broadland School of Dance – Theatre Production Information
Chaperones
To ensure the safety and smooth running of rehearsals and performances, we require parents to act as chaperones. Responsibilities include assisting with costume changes and guiding students to and from the wings for entrances and exits.
Chaperones must hold a valid chaperone licence, which includes safeguarding training and a DBS check. Any expenses incurred will be fully reimbursed on presentation of receipts.
Please note: If we do not have enough licensed chaperones, some students may be unable to perform due to council safeguarding regulations.
Important Update: Chaperone Licence Applications (From 9 September 2025)
The council has introduced several improvements to the chaperone licensing process following a full service review.
Key changes:
New online application form with secure document upload.
Simplified ID requirements at the start of the application.
Digital identity verification, allowing many applicants to confirm their identity quickly using a smartphone and passport.
DBS checks now available for paid roles, with a revised fee structure.
Clearer role categories to distinguish between volunteer and paid chaperones.
Updated fees (applications received on or after 9 September 2025):
£18.00 – Volunteer
£18.00 – Volunteer (DBS Update Service)
£18.00 – Paid / Self-Employed (DBS Update Service)
£68.00 – Paid / Self-Employed (new service)
What remains the same:
NSPCC Protecting Children in Entertainment training is still required.
Two references are still needed.
A colour photo is still required for the licence badge.
A short suitability interview will still take place.
Applications may take up to eight weeks, so early submission is strongly advised.
To apply, visit: www.norfolk.gov.uk/childperformance and follow the “Applying to be a chaperone” section.

In addition to licensed chaperones, we also need volunteers to support with:
